A gem of a wine from sunny South Africa. Barista Pinotage effortlessly combines two of the most enchanting elements that make South Africa such a magnificent wine country. The wine is made from the Pinotage grape, which originated in South Africa and is considered the country's signature national grape. This wine is known for its unique flavor profile, which includes notes of red fruit, plums, cherries, and even dark chocolate. The name "Barista" refers to the distinctive coffee-like aromas and flavors that can sometimes emerge in the wine, making it an interesting and distinctive choice for wine lovers.
The wines of Barista
Since the beginning of the Barista project, founded in 2013, this winery has been astonishing the wine world. The wines produced here are truly unique and stand out, both in terms of price and quality. For their red wines, the versatile Marc Kent has embraced the Pinotage grape. This grape variety has become increasingly well-known and is often associated with the fascinating wines of South Africa.
Pinotage was first cultivated in 1923 at Stellenbosch University. This grape is the result of a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. In the early years, the "new" grape faced difficulties, and it was therefore anything but popular. But now, it's become an indispensable grape and undoubtedly adds value to South African wines.
Impressions of the Barista Pinotage
Quality is paramount at Barista. That's why winemaker Marc Kent left nothing to chance. This Barista Pinotage had to be a well-structured wine. And he certainly succeeded. As soon as we opened this bottle of red wine, we were blown away. Exceptionally complex and rich in aroma and flavor. Expressive notes of red fruit and a hint of violet. A scent that perfectly complements the delicate flavor. Think mulberries, plump, ripe plums, and the pronounced maraschino cherries. On the finish, Barista Pinotage retains its temperament with lush notes of coffee, vanilla, and a hint of dark chocolate.
