This Moody Lagon pays tribute to the Bot River lagoon adjacent to the Benguela Cove estate and showcases the diversity found there. It's a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Shiraz. Each grape variety lends its own unique character to this Red Blend.
Manual harvesting for Benguela Cove Lighthouse Moody Lagoon
The Benguela Cove winery is located in the cool Walker Bay wine region. About 100 kilometers from Cape Town, we find this beautiful Benguela estate, a leading player in the South African wine world. The vineyards are planted on the estate's cooler slopes and on the upper slopes, where the wind blows.
Nicknamed "Moody," the lagoon is known for its unpredictable nature, changing color and flow direction throughout the day. It reflects all seasons in a single day and plays a key role in moderating temperatures in the vineyard. The vines are planted on soils of clay, quartz, and slate. The hand-harvested grapes are vinified separately by grape variety and fermented for six days in stainless steel tanks with select yeasts. After alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine is pressed and aged for 18 months in French barriques, 25 percent of which are new wood. After aging is complete, the different grape varieties are blended to form this smooth blend and bottled.
