Incredible beauty, softness, and strength! This oak-aged Chardonnay from Bergsig has it all. Unique in its kind. Tasting this white wine made our world stand still for a moment. A moment of bliss, the very reason we do it all. This white wine is imbued with so much love. Tant Anna (Aunt Anna) was a woman renowned throughout the Breedekloof wine region. Her kindness and hospitality made her a kind mother to the area. Her character was generous, open, and friendly, and we clearly taste that in this white wine from South Africa. A magnificent wine still revered by the Bergsig family. In 1843, the De Wet Lategan family founded the winery in Rawsonville (Breede Rivier). Over the years, it has grown considerably, and today, they have two hundred and fifty hectares of vineyards filled with many international grape varieties. The winery's name comes from the Drakensberg Mountains. Bergsig is a household name in the region and is today run by the seventh generation of the family.
Pure luxury this Tant Anna Chardonnay Reserve
This Chardonnay is made from Bergsig's finest and oldest vines. The vineyard is centuries old and is currently producing a top harvest. This is partly due to the fantastic climate. The abundant sunshine provides the Chardonnay grapes with everything they need. The bunches ripen very slowly, giving the grapes more time to draw nutrients from the rich soil structure. Harvesting begins late in the season and is carried out entirely by hand. Only the very best bunches are picked and brought to Bergsig in small crates. Once arrived, the bunches are stacked. From this point, the bunches begin to bleed: gravity crushes them, and the finest juice flows into the tank. This very expensive technique demonstrates the exceptional quality. It is fermented in oak barrels and then matured for another thirteen months in oak barrels. You can imagine that this Tant Anna Chardonnay Reserve is the jewel of Bergsig!
