Bibi Graetz Testamatta Bianco

The Testamatta Bianco has a fascinating story. Winemaker Bibi Graetz spent his youth on Isola del Giglio, where he witnessed the wonderful potential of viticulture. This wine was born from the stories and knowledge shared by the old farmers there. After much research and hard work, it was time to produce this Testamatta Bianco. This resulted in a superb white version, alongside the red. It has even become a benchmark for white wines in Italy.

The success of Bibi Graetz

Bibi Graetz is a relatively new winery, founded in 1991 and released its first wine in 2000. He decided to take a completely different path and become a winemaker in Tuscany. Like many outsiders, he decided to break every rule of modern viticulture and make wine according to his heart's desire. Now, more than 20 years later, his wines are a resounding success and are even known and loved worldwide. His wines have character and are very accessible. The Testamatta Bianco is made from 100 percent Ansonica grapes. These grapes come from the region's finest vineyard, Serrone. Situated at an altitude of 60 to 150 meters above sea level, this vineyard enjoys a sea view and the accompanying sea breeze. The vines are a good 100 years old and are deeply rooted in poor, rocky, granite soil. At peak ripeness, the grapes are harvested by hand and transported in small baskets to the winery. Here, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. A short maceration period of 48 hours follows at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks. After this period, the juice is transferred to new barriques for alcoholic fermentation. Finally, the wine is aged on the lees for another 12 months.

The Bibi Graetz Testamatta Bianco boasts a delightfully fruity bouquet of apple, peach, and lemon. The 12 months of aging also lend the wine delightful spicy notes. The palate is smooth with pleasant acidity and a fine minerality thanks to the granite soils that benefit the vines. A lively wine with a delightful finish.
