What an incredibly beautiful rosé from the warm island of Sicily, this Borgo Selene! The winery was founded by Curatolo Arini, who we know from the finest Marsala wines. It was Vito Curatolo Arini who, after the French Bourbon dynasty, established his winery in the town of Marsala in 1860. He had only one goal: to produce the finest Marsala wines. He had already struck gold, as the vineyards had long been family-owned. Initially, the grapes were sold to other wineries, but Curatolo Arini saw potential and uses these grapes to create the finest wines.
The old vineyard of Borgo Selene
After producing various Marsala wines, the winery also began producing exquisite wines, including this rosé. They discovered a unique vineyard in western Sicily, near Trapani. Here, the climate and soil are perfect for Frappato and Nero d'Avola grapes. The grapes receive ample sunshine, are cooled by the ocean breeze, and are situated on perfectly formed hillsides. When the grapes are ripe, they are harvested at night and in the morning to protect them from transport to Borgo Selene, preserving the freshness that we taste.
The ripe and fresh taste of the Borgo Selene Rosato
Upon opening the bottle, we immediately smell a soft aroma of strawberry and raspberry. Our senses are stimulated, and we quickly pour this chilled rosé. In the glass, it turns a light pink with a reddish sheen. It explodes, instantly bursting with notes of strawberry and cherry, but in just the right amount. A vigorous swirl reveals hints of grapefruit and lime. The palate is pampered with plenty of refreshment and a touch of minerality, making it very exciting. We also taste plenty of fruit, including some ripe grapefruit. The finish offers plenty of diversity with a soft and refreshing aftertaste.
