It's no wonder Brochard has been our best-selling Sancerre for years, as it produces such refined quality. The Hubert Brochard estate comprises 113 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and 39 hectares of Pinot Noir, spread across the communes of Chavignol, Sancerre, Sainte-Gemme, Ménétréol, Saint-Satur, Thauvenay, and Bannay, with additional vineyards in Pouilly-Fumé. These diverse holdings offer the Brochards a range of soils for crafting wines of depth and complexity. The family holds plots in Les Monts Damnés and the Côte de Beaujeu, two of Chavignol's most famous vineyards, where terres blanches and Kimmeridgian marl soils produce powerful wines. Silex, or flint, is concentrated around Sancerre, Saint-Satur, Ménétréol, and Thauvenay, producing wines with a strong mineral character. Finally, vineyards planted on chalky caillottes soil provide attractive aromas to the wines. Domaine Hubert Brochard is one of the few Sancerre producers that continues to harvest most of its grapes by hand. The Sauvignon Blanc special cuvées, some vineyards, and all Pinot Noir are harvested by hand and transported to the winery in small crates. Sauvignon Blanc is destemmed and pneumatically pressed for vinification in stainless steel tanks.
