Before vineyards dotted every valley north of San Francisco, before Napa and Sonoma were household names, before there was even a California wine scene, there was Buena Vista. Founded in 1857, Buena Vista is California's first premium winery, and its history is as colorful as it is proud. Today, the legend is being reborn under the vision of Jean-Charles Boisset. Just outside Sonoma, the original winery is now a California historic landmark. In recent years, the winery has invested heavily in new winemaking techniques and vineyard improvements, among other things. The Boisset family, with their choices and experience, knows how to create the finest wines. They preserve Buena Vista's history through an imaginative vision and a deep love for American viticulture.
The Legendary Badge's old Petite Sirah vineyard
In 2012, Buena Vista celebrated a major event, as they successfully restored the historic winery to its former glory. History is crucial to the winery, and today they continue to produce wines with the power and finesse of years past. This red, The Legendary Badge, is made from the Petite Sirah grape. It grows in the Sonoma Country wine region and is a much-described wine. The Petite Sirah grapes make for a rather spicy wine. The grapes grow on very old stems that have been in nutrient-rich soil for decades. This imparts a great deal of richness and finesse to the bunches, and combined with the perfect climate, this results in a superb harvest. When the harvest is ripe, the bunches are all gathered by hand. They are placed in small crates and transported directly to Buena Vista.
Wood aging for the Buena Vista The Legendary Badge Petite Sirah
The beautiful bunches immediately yield a lovely black color. But to give this red wine even more power, it is also aged in oak barrels. During this period, it developed an unprecedentedly full flavor, something we quickly notice when pouring this wine. It turns a beautiful dark red with a purple rim. It flows from the glass, offering impressions of black fruit such as blackberries and cherries, along with a generous dose of spice. Finally, some black pepper and notes of vanilla and cedar. On the palate, this The Legendary Badge Petite Sirah is a very full-bodied wine, with plenty of power at the start, thanks to black fruit and spice. Later, as the wine settles, it also reveals hints of gingerbread, vanilla, dark chocolate, and a touch of fresh cherries.
