This is Buena Vista's king's wine, a tribute to the winery's founder and a wine you'll never forget. It truly is the very best California has to offer. Buena Vista has a long history, dating back to 1857. That's when Agoston Haraszthy founded this beautiful winery after a long search. He was previously one of California's first sheriffs, elected sheriff of San Diego County in 1850. He built the first jail and served two exciting years before heading north to fulfill his dream. After a long search, he settled in Sonoma County, where he established Buena Vista Winery in 1857. It is his legacy that inspired this wine and commemorates the work of sheriffs.
The old vineyard of The Sheriff Red Blend
Today, the Boisset family owns the winery. They took over the winery in poor condition, but under the leadership of Jean-Charles Boisset, everything has been restored to its original state. The vineyards have been improved, and the old buildings were completely restored in 2012. They have also established a modern winery, where Jean-Charles Boisset seeks the right balance between modern techniques and ancient traditions. This bold wine is an authoritative blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Grenache. All the beautiful grape varieties found in Sonoma are incorporated into this iconic wine. The grapes also come from various vineyards, including Alexander Valley, Sonoma Valley, Rockpile, and Dry Creek. After the manual harvest, where each bunch is double-checked, this wine is aged in oak barrels for at least fifteen months, giving it ample time to develop. The result is a wine that is very full-bodied and concentrated.
