The port house Cálem Porto was founded in 1859 by António Alves Cálem. Since its inception, it has invested considerable time and energy in producing high-quality port wines at very reasonable prices. This has resulted in high market recognition and several international awards. Calem Porto is the market leader in Portugal. There isn't a single store in Portugal that sells drinks without Calem in its product range. The familiar look of the bottles is also recognizable worldwide. We were therefore quite surprised to see the labels gradually getting a new look. But, once again, these beautiful bottles are perfectly recognizable!

20 years of expertise

A beautifully complex port in which flavors and aromas explode—that's what we can rightly call this Calem 20 Years Old. All the grapes for this port are hand-harvested at perfect ripeness on the steep slopes along the Douro River. Under the supervision of winemaker Pedro Sá, the grapes are transported to Calem in small crates, where they are then inspected again on conveyor belts. According to Pedro, only the finest bunches should make it into the bottle. After pressing, it is aged in oak barrels. This red port is blended annually with various vintages of port wines. The average age of the port must be 20 years to be labeled 20 Years Old Tawny.

The taste of Calem 20 years

The port's aged style is also evident upon pouring, revealing a coppery color with a brownish hue. This red port has aromas of cedar, honey, and spices. Its flavor is the result of the careful blending of wines aged 20 years in oak barrels. The palate is balanced and complex, with a long and pleasant finish. Delicious hints of ripe, dried red fruit, dates, and roasted nuts are also present. Enjoy this red port slightly chilled and pair it with a delicious piece of aged cheese for a truly wonderful evening!
