The port house Cálem Porto was founded in 1859 by António Alves Cálem. Since its inception, it has invested considerable time and energy in producing high-quality port wines at very reasonable prices. This has resulted in high market recognition and several international awards. Calem Porto is the market leader in Portugal. There isn't a single store in Portugal that sells drinks without Calem in its product range. The familiar look of the bottles is also recognizable worldwide. We were therefore quite surprised to see the labels gradually getting a new look. But, once again, these beautiful bottles are perfectly recognizable!
Only the best grapes for this 30 Years Old Tawny
Calem 30-Year-Old Tawny, a port for the true connoisseur. The older the average age of a port, the more distinct and concentrated its flavor. An aged Tawny, as older Ports are called, is the most difficult to make. This 30-Year-Old Tawny is no exception. This Port is made from aged Tawny Ports from different years. The average age of these Ports must be 30 years. Because Ports from different vintages are used, blending is an extremely precise task for the winemaker. This 30-year-old red Port is made from Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barocca, and Touriga Franca grapes. All these grapes come from the finest vineyards and are all harvested by hand. Only the best grapes are selected for the long aging that awaits the port. Once the final blend is composed, the Port will be approved by the Port Institute, and the winemaker can release it.
The taste of Calem 30 years
The result? A phenomenal old port that we thoroughly enjoyed. The brownish color is characteristic of an old port. On the nose, we noted aromas of chocolate, plums, sweet black fruit, and vanilla. The palate is refined and very smooth, with plenty of deep flavors of plum, tobacco, chocolate, and vanilla. The powerful, ripe finish completes the whole picture. A port with an incredible range of flavors, meaning you'll have a wonderful evening with just one glass of this superb wine. You'll never forget this 30-Year-Old Tawny.
