Calem Special Reserve—yes, this is a special port from the world-famous Calem Port House. This Special Reserve is a unique blend of various Tawny casks with an average age of 7 years. Furthermore, this port is unfiltered, which further enhances this superb red port. We already know that Tawny is of great importance to Calem. Tawny Port is the winery's most famous and best-selling port, and the Special Reserve is a tribute to this. With this port, Calem aims to showcase the importance of Tawny Port. The grapes used for this beautiful blend are Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional. These bunches grow in one of Calem's oldest vineyards, giving them unique quality. At perfect ripeness, the grapes are harvested manually at night. The night harvest ensures that the grapes are still "resting," meaning the skins are less susceptible to bruising during transport to the winery. Due to the manual harvest there is a very strict selection of which grapes are suitable for pressing.

Special Tawny Blend

The port house Cálem Porto was founded in 1859 by António Alves Cálem. Since its inception, it has invested considerable time and energy in producing high-quality port wines at very reasonable prices. This has resulted in high market recognition and several international awards. Calem Porto is the market leader in Portugal. There isn't a single store in Portugal that sells drinks without Calem in its product range. The familiar look of the bottles is also recognizable worldwide. We were therefore quite surprised to see the labels gradually getting a new look. But, once again, these beautiful bottles are perfectly recognizable!

Special Reserve, Special Taste!

We're incredibly curious about this Calem Special Reserve. Upon pouring, we see a beautiful ruby-red color with a distinctive light brown rim. The aroma reveals notes of nuts, spices, vanilla, wood, and, of course, dried fruit. The palate is rounded and very refined, with abundant notes of red fruit, chocolate, vanilla, raisins, spices, nuts, and plums. A Special Port with a pleasant and very special flavor!
