In the heart of the medieval village of Minervino, we find Cantine Menhir. This fantastic winery was founded by three innovative entrepreneurs. They saw the potential of viticulture in this particular part of Italy. And that inspiration and conviction proved more than justified! Today, Cantine Menhir is one of the finest wineries in the heel of the boot in Italy and is known worldwide for its top wines. The name Cantine Menhir derives from the stone structures from the Stone Age. The stones used for these structures are also called menhirs.

A few months of wood aging for a perfect finish

Cantine Menhir has grown into a magnificent and extensive winery with 100 hectares of vineyards, all located around the village of Minervino, nestled against the beautiful hills of Salento. The vineyards for this Cantine Menhir Primitivo are over 35 years old. Because of this considerable age, the vines yield fewer grapes, but the quality is nevertheless outstanding. When the Primitivo grapes are perfectly ripe, they are harvested by hand. Each bunch is inspected individually to ensure they are suitable for pressing into this delicious red wine. After vinification, the wine is aged for several months in oak barrels for a perfect finish.

A full and intense red wine

This Cantine Menhir Primitivo certainly has a perfect finish! Upon pouring, we see a beautiful, deep cherry red color with a brown rim. The aroma offers a wide range of rich aromas, including notes of black cherries, plums, and currants, a pleasant sweetness, and a final hint of vanilla and licorice. The taste is full and intense. Rich yet sultry flavors of berries and black cherries are balanced by a spicy undertone and plenty of depth. The finish is full yet silky smooth. What a gem!
