In addition to the Varietals and Reservas, Carta Vieja's extensive range also includes Gran Reserva wines. It all began as a dream, but after more than 200 years, it's still very much alive. Wine lovers worldwide can enjoy these Chilean wines. Their vision has been passed down through generations, perfectly embodying the essence of wine. This Chardonnay is a prime example.

Unique vineyards of Carta Vieja

Production is entirely in the hands of the family-owned Carta Vieja winery. Founded in 1825, the winery only began marketing its own wines in 1985. Before that, they supplied grapes to other leading Chilean wineries. Today, the seventh generation is at the helm. Alberto del Pedregal manages the hundreds of hectares of vineyards and the associated modern winery. The Chardonnay grapes for this Gran Reserva come from the Casablanca Valley, Chile's youngest wine region. Unlike the other valleys, this one enjoys a cool climate, which is very effective for the white wines. Besides the climate and the ideal location, the vines also benefit from the loamy soil. The harvest takes place in mid-April. The best grapes are carefully selected and harvested. At the winery, the grapes undergo a 10-hour cold maceration. Temperature-controlled fermentation follows, and after that, the wine only needs to mature. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. But we promise you, the long wait will be more than worth it.

A complex Chardonnay from Carta Vieja

With an intense yellow color, the Chardonnay radiates in the glass. You can immediately savor the tropical fruit aromas intertwined with toasted notes of ripe banana, passion fruit, and roasted almonds. The palate is intense with a good attack and acidity that balances everything out. A complex wine that perfectly showcases what the Casablanca Valley has to offer.
