The pride of the Trentino region is the Lagrein grape. While traditionally used primarily for rosé, it now excels as a red wine. The flavor can be somewhat earthy, with fruity notes of plum and cherry. Thanks to the oak aging used at Castel Firmian, this red wine gains a bit more body.
Quality wines from Mezzacorona
Mezzacorona is an Italian wine cooperative in the heart of Trentino. Near the Dolomites, they have access to beautiful vineyards. The location, combined with the excellent temperatures, mountain breezes, microclimate, and mountainous terroir, creates the ideal recipe for high-quality wines. White wines, red wines, Gewürztraminer, and many indigenous varieties flourish in the well-maintained vineyards of the cooperative members. All members focus on sustainability and avoid pesticides. The work is carried out by hand as much as possible to produce the finest wines. Castel Firmian is a wine series that reflects Mezzacorona's pride. It is a highly popular wine series enjoyed worldwide.
The Lagrein grapes are carefully selected and harvested at peak ripeness. Classic vinification takes place in the winery. First, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. A temperature-controlled fermentation at 26 degrees Celsius follows for 12 to 13 days. The wine then matures for 10 months in French oak barrels. Finally, the wine is aged for another 12 months in steel and then bottled.
The fruity notes of Castel Firmian Riserva Lagrein
The Riserva Lagrein emerges with a ruby red color. Thanks to the climate, it develops aromas of ripe red berries, blackberries, and blueberries. It is a very fruity wine, with fruity notes complemented by hints of vanilla and almond, achieved through oak aging. On the palate, it is a robust, structured wine with pleasant acidity.
