Chateau Lauriga was and still is a family winery. Until a few years ago, it was run by the French-Catalan Clar family. They built the winery to greatness with the entire family's dedication. However, there was no successor, and a search began for a candidate/successor for Chateau Lauriga's beautiful vineyards. Jean-Claude Mas seized this opportunity and purchased the magnificent chateau. He invested heavily in the winery and brought a wealth of expertise to Chateau Lauriga. This mix of innovations further enhanced the quality of Chateau Lauriga's wines, a fact we clearly notice in the aroma and taste of, for example, this Chateau Lauriga Le Cadet.

Matured on oak wood, this Lauriga Le Cadet

The vineyards for this Lauriga Le Cadet are located in the Côtes du Roussillon region in the south of France. The terroir is characterized by clay, limestone, and gravel. The vines are between 14 and 46 years old, producing a unique vintage today. This red wine is made from Carignan and Syrah grapes, all harvested by hand. The bunches are transported in small crates early in the morning to Château Lauriga, where this Le Cadet is aged in oak for seven to eight months. As you can imagine, this wine is fantastic and rich.

Full and very powerful this Chateau Lauriga Le Cadet

Upon pouring, we see a beautiful ruby-red color, releasing fantastic aromas. Nosing the glass, we noted nuances of red fruit, violets, and sweet spices. The palate is full-bodied, offering soft tannins and notes of fresh black and red fruit. Later, as the wine rolls in the mouth, it reveals powerful flavors of cherries and spices. The oak barrel notes only emerge later in the finish, where we taste notes of cedar, vanilla, and a touch of licorice.
