Château Val Joanis is a jack of all trades. Besides rosé, white wine, and sparkling wine, they also produce beautiful red wines. Among them is this Les Griottes Luberon. A powerful wine with fruity aromas and smoky notes on the palate.

The vineyards of Chateau Val Joanis

The grapes for Les Groittes Luberon come from vineyards situated at higher altitudes in the Luberon region. Here, Val Joanis produces characteristic wines with a recognizable Rhône style. They use a variety of grape varieties, demonstrating the winery's versatility. The vines are deeply rooted in a limestone-clay soil with a thick layer of gravel. The grapes also benefit from a perfect location with warm days and cool nights. Although the area is only 20 kilometers from Aix-de-Provence, it belongs to the Rhône region. But Val Joanis draws inspiration from both regions, and this is certainly reflected in the wines. Grenache and Syrah grapes are used for Les Griottes. At peak ripeness, they are harvested and taken almost immediately to the winery. Here, they are rigorously inspected, ensuring that only the very best grapes remain. The grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks with a long maceration of the skins for 15 to 20 days at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine is aged for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels.

Enjoy the powerful Les Griottes Luberon

And the long wait is rewarded with this Les Griottes, which displays purple glints in the glass. Upon pouring, we immediately savor a delicious aroma of blackcurrant, plum, and stewed fruit, complemented by slightly smoky notes. On the palate, it's a powerful red wine with plenty of dark fruit and subtle spice. Here too, the smoky notes, developed thanks to the oak aging, come to the fore.
