Albariño CINCO ISLAS ORO white wine is a reflection of the Chaves wine region. It is the result of a unique selection of grapes from a clone over 200 years old. The finest grapes were selected to vinify this creamy yet fruity wine.
The beginning of the Chaves wines
José Chaves founded the Chaves winery in 1955 at the westernmost tip of the Atlantic Ocean. The same love of wine was passed down from generation to generation. In 1986, the winery was among the first to release wines protected by the "Vinos de la Tierra" designation, guaranteeing the origin of Albariño del Salnés. With this, they clearly put wines from the Rías Baixas region on the map. Today, the third generation proudly heads the highly successful Chaves winery.
The Albarino grapes for this wine come from the winery's very first vineyard. The name refers to the five islands visible from the vineyard near the coast. At an altitude of about 100 meters, the grapes enjoy the warm sun and a refreshing sea breeze from the Atlantic Ocean. When the Albarino grapes are ripe enough, they are harvested entirely by hand and transported to the winery in small crates. Once arrived, they are fermented after a rigorous selection at a controlled temperature of about 16 degrees Celsius. Only the juice from the first pressing is used. The wine is then aged on lees for eight months, which gives it its complexity and creaminess. Finally, the wine is aged for another four months in stainless steel tanks.
The smell and taste of Chaves Cinco Islas Oro Albarino
The Chaves Cinco Islas Oro Albarino emerges with a golden yellow color. The aroma is rich with distinct notes of pineapple, banana, and mango. Wonderfully tropical, with warm buttery notes as well. The palate is just as full-bodied as the aroma. A creamy wine with salty and mineral notes on the palate. It brings together many flavors and finishes with a refreshing finish. Pair this wine with a delicious shellfish risotto.
