Cielo 1908 Nero di Gio
A tribute to founder Giovanni Cielo: a full-bodied, velvety-smooth Rosso d'Italia with deep aromas and flavors. Created for a wide range of occasions, from festive dinners to casual evenings with friends. What does Rosso d'Italia mean on the label? It denotes a blend of Italian origins without a specific appellation, allowing the winemaker the freedom to select the best fruit for flavor and balance.
Vineyards and region
The wine was developed as "Gio's black," inspired by Giovanni's powerful red wines. Nero di Gio combines the ripe, sunny flavors of the south with the fruity freshness found in the north. This creates a harmonious profile that complements a wide variety of dishes.
Vinification and maturation
Indigenous varieties are vinified separately and then blended. A portion of the wine is aged in oak, which enhances the velvety structure and adds a subtle toasted note. Serve at 16–18°C (62–64°F) and drink within 1–3 years for the best profile.
Grape composition
Montepulciano, Negroamaro and Merlot, vinified separately and blended for depth, spiciness and juicy black fruit.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Dark ruby red. The aroma reveals blackberry, black cherry, and plum, with notes of coffee, licorice, and a hint of cinnamon. The palate is full and smooth with a fresh core and a long, savory finish that also reveals balsamic and floral hints. Delicious at the table with grilled meat, pulled pork with red onion chutney, rich mushroom lasagna, or a gourmet burger with cheddar.
