The CignoMoro winery was founded thanks to the grandfather of the current owner, who began cultivating vines in 1921. For years, the vineyard fell into disrepair, only to be revived in 2001 when the founder's grandson, Ciro Matichecchia, took an interest. This is how the production of wines began, using traditional recipes made from the fruit of 100-year-old vines, with the addition of a modern approach to production and distribution.
Contemporary wines from Cignomoro
Apulia, in southeastern Italy (Puglia), is an ancient region with a rich winemaking tradition dating back to antiquity. The climate is very hot and dry. However, the cooling breeze from the nearby sea provides the necessary refreshment for the vineyards. The fertile "red earth" (iron-rich limestone soil) perfectly complements the demands of viticulture. The family-run CignoMoro has invested heavily in technology in recent years to produce natural and contemporary wines. This is reflected not only in the modern label design but also clearly noticeable in the nose and palate. The main grape variety for the superb red wine cuvée with delicate herbs is Negroamaro, followed by Primitivo (Zinfandel) and Malvasia Nera.

The grapes are carefully harvested and strictly controlled. The healthy, ripe grapes are pressed and fermented in small, temperature-controlled tanks. Maceration lasts over a month for maximum extraction, and the final maceration takes place in stainless steel tanks. This dry red wine has a ruby red color with purple highlights. It reveals a highly aromatic bouquet with intense hues of red berries and strawberries, delicate notes of blackberry, and subtle hints of pomegranate and cherry in the background. On the palate, the wine is fresh, refined, aromatic, and flavorful. It pairs well with meat dishes such as pasta sauces or stews.
