For the Cruz del Castillo family, it all began in Rioja in 1850. The winery was founded with the goal of producing the finest wines in the country. They've certainly succeeded; the wines are acclaimed and known for their value for money. Since then, the winery has expanded to include other vineyards in various wine regions, but their love for Rioja remains undiminished. After all, this is where it all began for the family. Today, the fifth generation is at the helm, and winemaker Franseco Jr. continues to craft exquisite wines. Influenced by ancient traditions and modern techniques, he explores the boundaries between old and new. He's often called the pioneer of Spain, but we're proud that, with his courage and perseverance, he still manages to surprise us.

The unique vineyard for the white Rioja

Besides the two red wines from the Rioja wine region, Franseco Jr. also produces a white wine. Made from Viura, Sauvignon Blanc, and Tempranillo grapes, which complement each other perfectly in this white wine. The vineyard is now 25 years old and is producing a superb harvest. The roots are deeply rooted in the rich soil structure, providing the bunches with plenty of nutrients. After a balanced growing season with plenty of warmth and cool winds, it's time to bring in the harvest. The entire harvest is hand-picked, and the selection is rigorous. Only the best bunches are placed in small crates for transport to Cruz del Castillo.

Once the harvest is brought in, it matures entirely in oak barrels for six months. This is an important period because it takes on beautiful and powerful impressions from the wooden barrel. This translates into a golden yellow color in the glass and aromas that will delight any wine lover. We noted notes of green apples, refined green herbs, a light hint of honey, and natural oak. On the palate, the tongue is teased by minerals and fresh hints of citrus fruit. We also noted nuances of grapefruit, fennel, and a hint of white peppercorn. The finish is long and balanced, with a rich aftertaste thanks to the wooden barrel. What a beautiful wine, and it will stay with us for a long time.
