While Grüner Veltliner might normally evoke a fresh and fruity white wine, this Vom Loss proves otherwise. This Diwald Grüner Veltliner vom Loss displays the characteristics of loess soil in its purest form. This results in a somewhat heavier wine with intense aromas and spicy notes.
Organic wines without fuss
Diwald is one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in Austria. The winery is located in the Wagram-Donauland region, 60 kilometers north of Vienna. Paula and Hans Diwald were pioneers in converting their winery to fully organic viticulture at a time when chemicals and additives were prominent in winemaking.
Less is more, that's the rule at Diwald. It's a matter of allowing the grapes to express their unique character and blending them as little as possible with other grape varieties. This white wine comes from vineyards around the town of Grossriedenthaler, where the soil is loose. This very fine-grained, calcareous soil type gives Grüner its characteristic style. All vineyards are cultivated with the utmost respect for nature, without pesticides and in accordance with ecological regulations. In the cellar, only the natural yeast is used on the grapes; nothing is added to alter the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand in early October and fermented spontaneously. The selected vineyards, with their loess soils, create a spicy, lively, and full-bodied wine that speaks volumes about its origins.
