Organic viticulture at Diwald
Diwald Winery is located in the village of Großriedenthal in the Wagram region, 60 kilometers north of Vienna. The vineyards are predominantly situated on loess soil, which gives the wines a unique character. Founders Hans and Paula Diwald became true pioneers in 1976 when they did something unthinkable: they converted to organic farming. There was no certification yet, only a handful of like-minded individuals. Paula and Hans were ridiculed at the time, but now they are pioneers of an entire movement. The winery now cultivates 20 hectares of vines and exports to 18 countries on three continents.
The Zweigelt grapes for this Selektion wine come from cooler vineyards in Diwald. This results in a lighter wine. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected on the sorting conveyor. This is followed by spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 7 to 10 days. The wine is then ready to age in partially stainless steel and partially large acacia wood barrels. The wines in this series are crafted to emphasize the fruitiness of the wine, and this Zweigelt certainly delivers.
Enjoy the velvety soft Diwald Zweigelt
This Zweigelt is a velvety-smooth red wine with aromas of berries, cherries, and spices. The color is reminiscent of dark black cherries, as is the delicate aroma on the nose. The palate is delightfully fruity and has a medium-length finish with spicy notes. For anyone who enjoys fruity, yet not too heavy red wines. Deliciously pleasant and very drinkable.
