A silky-smooth wine with a characteristic bitter finish. The Beaujolais wine of Italy! The Dolcetto grape was originally used for beauty treatments by noblewomen. The grapes were also eaten as a delicacy. Only later was they made into wine. 'Dulce' means soft and sweet, which is why these grapes were so popular among wealthy women.
The history of Marchesi di Barolo
The Marchesi di Barolo wine cellars are located in the village of Barolo. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, Marquis Falletti laid the foundation for the now world-famous Barolo wines. After the death of the last Falletti, the work was continued by the charitable foundation Opera Pia Barolo. In 1895, Peitro Abbona began working in the cellars, and with his knowledge and skills, he founded the Marchesi di Barolo winery. Today, it is run by Ernesto Abbona's family. The winery has approximately 110 hectares of vineyards. Thanks to a significant increase in productivity and a sound strategy, the company has grown considerably in recent years. In addition to their own vineyards, they purchase 50 percent of their grapes from local farmers.
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and then taken to the cellar to be destemmed and gently crushed. The grapes are then fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures. Maceration lasts five days at approximately 32 degrees Celsius. Fermentation ends at a low temperature to bring out the intense fruit aromas. The Boschetti vineyard in Barolo is situated at a high altitude. The soil is calcareous and has a high percentage of quartzite and sandstone. This soil type, which is very rare in Barolo, brings out the typical characteristics of the Dolcetto d'Alba grape.
A fresh classic wine from Marchesi di Barolo
The distinctive soil composition and temperature-controlled fermentation enhance the typical characteristics of the Dolcetto d'Alba variety, which naturally produces a ruby-red wine with purple highlights. The nose is fresh, fragrant, and fruity, immediately reminiscent of Morello cherries. The pleasantly harmonious, dry palate is due to the lower acidity. It's a classic wine for any meal. You don't need an excuse to pour it.
