After the success winemaker Jean Bousquet had with his Chardonnay and Malbec Reserve wines, he launched the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve two years later. It proved to be a bull's-eye. Jean Bousquet had selected a unique vineyard for this red wine in the Tupungato Uco Valley in Mendoza. The unique climate, nutrient-rich soil, and altitude of up to 1200 meters proved the success of this red wine. This didn't go unnoticed by the international wine press, as it recently received 91 points from James Suckling and 92 points from Tim Atkin. Soil structure is one of the key factors in the quality of this red Cabernet Sauvignon. The old vineyard has deep roots and can therefore absorb a lot of nutrients from the rich soil. Thanks to the warm summer and cool nights, the growing season for the Cabernet Sauvignon grape is very uneventful. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are ripe and very powerful, ideal for oak-aged Cabernet Sauvignon.
Completely hand-harvested for this Cabernet Sauvignon
Once the grapes have absorbed all the nutrients from the environment and reached perfect ripeness, they are harvested by hand. Bunch by bunch is inspected and harvested early in the morning. Only the finest bunches are used in this red wine, and besides the Cabernet Sauvignon, a small amount of Malbec is added to give it some depth. The entire wine is then aged for ten months in French oak barrels in the Domaine Bousquet cellars. This wine, left to its own devices, slowly develops into a true gem with a wealth of powerful aromas and flavors.
The aroma and taste of the Bousquet Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Upon pouring, we see a deep red color with purple glints, suggesting a top-notch wine. Nosing the glass, we encounter a beautiful bouquet of blackberry, tertiary aromas of tobacco, and leather. The palate is very complex, offering a warm mouthfeel, ripe notes of raspberry, and refined oak. On the back of the tongue, this red wine also reveals hints of a certain spice and abundant black fruit, such as cherries and blackberries. The finish reveals beautifully refined tannins with good intensity. A wine that lends itself perfectly to pairing with red meat or game.
