Wood aging for Domaine de Joy Eros Rose
Domaine de Joy is a winery with a distinguished history. It's a true family business where winemaking is still considered a passion. It all began at the beginning of the 20th century when the Gessner family, originally from Switzerland, fell in love with the Armagnac region. They established their own Armagnac vineyard in the hills of the Cotes de Gascogne. To this day, the Gessner family still owns Domaine de Joy, which owns a total of 170 hectares in the Cotes de Gascogne.
Under the supervision of the fourth generation, Vanessa and Kevin Gessner, they grow primarily white grape varieties in the rolling landscape of the Cotes de Gascogne. While the region has become renowned for its white wines, Domaine de Joy has ventured into producing reds and rosés as well. With great passion and dedication, the Gessner family ensures that their wines excel in quality and flavor.
The Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Tannat grapes for Domaine de Joy Eros Rose are grown on a gravelly clay soil with steep slopes. Harvesting takes place at night to ensure the grapes stay cool and retain their optimal aromas. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are destemmed and immediately pressed to obtain a clear and aromatic juice. Fermentation then takes place at a controlled temperature to maintain high quality. The wine is then aged for a further four months in oak barrels to gain additional complexity.
