Description
Grape and vinification
This wine is made entirely from Pinot Noir , sourced from the Premier Cru parcel Clos de la Fussière , a monopole owned by Xavier Monnot in Maranges. The vineyard is situated on clay-limestone soil with an excellent south to southeast exposure. The grapes are harvested by hand, carefully selected and partially destemmed. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, followed by maturation of approximately 12 to 14 months in French oak, some of which is new. This provides structure and complexity without overpowering the fruit.
About Domaine Xavier Monnot
Located in Meursault, Domaine Xavier Monnot manages approximately 17 hectares of vineyards across the Côte de Beaune, including prestigious Premier Cru parcels in Maranges, Volnay, and Beaune, among others. The estate is known for its combination of modern precision and traditional Burgundian elegance. Monnot strives for wines with pure fruit, fine texture, and subtle oak integration. His style is refined and balanced, in which terroir and grape varieties are clearly expressed.
Year 2021 in the Côte de Beaune
An excellent year with wines that are ready to drink relatively early and display elegant structure . Thanks to the cooler growing season, the wines have a refined freshness, lively acidity, and a distinctly Burgundian character. They are already very appealing but can also develop further for several years.
Food pairing
The Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Fussière pairs beautifully with refined dishes like duck with cherries, veal loin with mushroom sauce, or roasted quail. Its elegant structure also truly shines with aged cheeses like Comté or Tomme de Savoie.
