From vineyard to bottle

The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

This wine is made from 100% Zibibbo grapes, the Muscat of Alexandria. The grapes for this Kabir Moscato di Pantelleria come from southwestern Sicily, on the island of Pantelleria. The vines grow in sandy, lava-derived soil at an altitude of twenty to four hundred meters above sea level. This delicious dessert wine beautifully showcases the winery's consistently high quality.

Donnafugata was founded in Sicily in 1851 thanks to the initiative of the passionate Rallo family. They wanted to show the world the style and perception of Sicilian wine. Donnafugata now consists of a team dedicated to representing "Made in Italy" worldwide, led by the fifth generation of the family. They do not use herbicides or chemical fertilizers in the vineyard. The winery strives for sustainability and grape excellence by using green manure, organic fertilization, emergency irrigation, and cluster thinning. They utilize natural resources such as soil, water, air, and energy. This results in healthy and perfectly ripe grapes without a heavy burden on the environment.

The grapes are carefully harvested by hand. This wine then ferments in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 14-16 degrees Celsius. The wine is then aged in large steel tanks for three months. After this, the wine is bottled. After bottling, the wine is then aged for another three months in the cellars. Kabir is the Arabic term for "the great," and this is the name Donnafugata chose for his Moscato di Pantelleria for its broad and noble aromas. The label speaks the language of the island and expresses the colors, freshness, and aromatic richness of Zibibbo.

With a bright straw-yellow color, Kabir is characterized by a complex bouquet featuring ripe fruit with yellow flesh (nectarines), floral hints of orange blossom, and delicate, full-bodied peach nuances. The palate reveals fruity and sweet notes in this Kabir Moscato di Pantelleria Donnafugata, perfectly balanced by its fresh, mineral undertones. The palate reveals abundant nuances of yellow fruit, nuts, pink pepper, and nutmeg. What a classy dessert wine! The Moscato di Pantelleria PDO "Kabir" from Donnafugata is a superb natural sweet wine sourced from the beautiful Donnafugata plots in Pantelleria.
