Donnafugata from Sicily
The winery was founded in Sicily in 1851 thanks to the initiative of the passionate Rallo family. They wanted to show the world the style and perception of Sicilian wine. Donnafugata now consists of a team dedicated to representing "Made in Italy" worldwide, led by the fifth generation of the family. They do not use herbicides or chemical fertilizers in the vineyard. The winery strives for sustainability and grape excellence by using green manure, organic fertilization, emergency irrigation, and cluster thinning. They utilize natural resources such as soil, water, air, and energy. This results in healthy and perfectly ripe grapes without a heavy burden on the environment.
The refinement and thoughtful winemaking method are evident in this Donnafugata Sherezade. The name Sherezade refers to a captivating woman, protector in the famous Arabian Nights tales. This intensely Mediterranean wine is crafted in the opulent Donnafugata style.
Full and very powerful this Donnafugata Sherazade
The grapes are hand-harvested in September and then gently pressed. Fermentation of the grapes on the skins takes place in steel tanks at a temperature of 24-26 degrees Celsius. The wine is then further aged in large steel tanks for two to three months. After this, the wine is bottled. After bottling, the wine is then aged for another three months in the cellars. And then you have this refined red wine. The aroma has hints of black fruit, plums, and a touch of tobacco. This wine is called Sherazade because of its softness on the palate. A lovely, slightly creamy palate, with soft fruit notes and a generous dose of plums and spices!
