We've known Edizione for years, and we know this is truly a top-notch wine. It couldn't be better, we knew that, but nothing could be further from the truth, because Fantini is releasing a unique masterpiece. It's called Edizione Cinque Autoctoni Limited Release 17, a blend of grapes sourced from all over Italy. With this red wine, we can practically taste all of Italy in a single glass!
The old vineyards of Edizione Cinque Autoctoni
The grapes used for this red wine are Montepulciano, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Negroamaro, and Malvasia Nera. The grapes come from the municipalities of Colonnella, Ortona, Sava, and Manduria. What makes this red wine so special? Well, the winemaker cuts the branches where the bunches hang a month before harvest. The grapes dry naturally, developing much more flavor and aroma. However, part of the harvest is lost, and each bunch must be harvested individually by hand. The final juice is truly fantastic, full-bodied and robust with great depth. To give the wine even more power, it is aged entirely in oak barrels. The aging process lasts a full 18 months, resulting in a truly fantastic result.
Full and very powerful this Edizione Cinque Autoctoni Limited Release 17 Fantini
As soon as we opened the bottle, we could smell the power of this red wine: abundant richness of black fruit, light spices, and a hint of cocoa. Upon pouring, we saw a dark red color with purple glints, and it bursts from the glass. We noted aromas of red fruit like blackberries, cherries, and dried red fruit, along with a hint of spice. The palate of this Edizione Cinque Autoctoni Limited Release 17 is phenomenal, rich and rounded with a wealth of powerful flavors. Blackcurrant, plums, oak, vanilla, cocoa, cherry, and spices—it's all in this bottle! But be warned, it's only available in limited quantities, so you'll be out of luck for this red powerhouse.
