Fattoria Le Pupille Poggio Valente

One of Fattoria Le Pupille's finest wines, this red Poggio Valente! This wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown 280 meters above sea level. This old vineyard dates back to the 1970s, and the aged vines give this Fattoria Le Pupille Poggio Valente its distinctive terroir. The harvest is gathered entirely by hand and then aged in oak barrels. This gives it an overwhelming aroma and a complex flavor.

The masterpieces of Fattoria Le Pupille

The winery's name has nothing to do with the owner's eyes, as Pupille means "hill" in Tuscan. This winery is located on one of the numerous hills of the Maremma region, near Tuscany. In the early 1980s, Elisabetta Geppetti acquired an abandoned farmhouse with a manor house east of Grosseto and restored it in typical Tuscan style. With her wines produced at Fattoria Le Pupille, she not only created a masterpiece that combines tradition with modernity but also put the region on the map. Only select Sangiovese clones are used for this wine, which is grown on the single Poggio Valente site at 280 meters above sea level in a southwestern location. The vines are planted on sandy soils, which gives the wines a fine balance and silky tannins. After selective hand-picking, the grapes are macerated on the skins for approximately 25 days, fermented in stainless steel tanks, and then aged for fifteen months in 500-liter and 600-liter French oak barrels.

The palate is complex and creamy, offering lovely flavors of cherries, berries, pepper, biscuit, and a hint of vanilla and oak. Beautiful, refined tannins and a creamy finish complete the wine! The Poggio Valente is best served with game dishes or delicate red meat dishes.
