The quality wines of Fattoria Montellori
More than 120 years ago, in 1895 to be precise, the Fattoria Montellori family established it. It is a modern winery that, despite its size, has remained small and unpretentious. Situated just between Florence and Pisa stands a beautiful villa surrounded by a sprawling garden with unique flowers and contemporary art. Founder Giuseppe Nieri began with a few hectares of vineyard, initially for his own use. His son, Alessandro Nieri, decided to further develop the business by purchasing land and planting new vines. He also began renovating the cellar, and bottling of Montellori wine as we know it today began in 1950. Since then, the winery has focused entirely on producing quality wines from the Tuscan wine region.
The vineyards for this Chianti are located on the rolling hills of Cerreto Guidi, at an altitude of 100 to 150 meters above sea level. The vines are planted in clayey soils. The grapes reach peak ripeness in mid-September and are harvested by hand. In the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for about 20 days. The wine is then aged for 12 months in partially steel and partially cement vats. This creates a balanced aroma.
