This beautiful old Sancerre house is located in the village of Bué, surrounded by ancient vineyards. It's a picturesque spot where everything revolves around their wine, Sancerre. The Domaine Francois Millet winery has a long history, dating back to 1850. That's when the family planted their first vines in the fertile soil. During the early years of Domaine Francois Millet, Bernard and Pierre quickly realized that the soil was perfectly suited to Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. This insight earned them the official Sancerre appellation in 1936. And they're proud of it!

The old vineyard of Francois Millet Sancerre

Today, the fifth generation is at the helm of the Millet family. They still produce beautiful, classic wines from their old vineyards. In total, the winery boasts a whopping 21 hectares of vineyards, 75% of which are planted with Sauvignon Blanc. The old, thick stems, some 45 years old, produce a superb harvest. This is very full and complex, thanks to the old soils where wine has been grown for over 160 years. The vineyards enjoy a favorable east-southeast exposure, allowing for the perfect climate. When the Sancerre harvest is ripe, all the bunches are harvested by hand.

Long maturation on the lees for this Millet Sancerre

After pressing, this Francois Millet Sancerre is aged for an impressive six months on its lees, giving it fuller, more complex aromas and flavors. A rich wine with all the beautiful characteristics of the region, thanks in part to the chalky soil. On the nose, this Francois Millet has all the beautiful characteristics of a good Sancerre, with notes of lime, citrus, chalk, minerals, and a touch of gooseberry. The taste is pure and very rounded, with plenty of richness and finesse!
