A truly full-bodied Pinot Grigio from Italy, this Gabbiano Pinot Grigio Promessa. This wine was produced by Federico Cerelli, a Tuscan native and a passionate and talented winemaker with over a decade of experience crafting top-quality Italian wines. He has worked on the Gabbiano team since 2011.
The traditional Italian wines
The Gabbiano brand was recently relaunched by its new owner, Treasury Wine Estates, an international wine company dedicated to producing the very best traditional Italian wine styles. The wine world is awash with inferior Italian Pinot Grigio, and Binendwines has waited years to find one with the quality we aspire to offer.
The grapes for this wine were harvested from select vineyards in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, where the cool climate allows for perfect ripening conditions. At the winery, the fruit was gently pressed and then fermented with select yeasts at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. A small amount of Chardonnay—three percent—was added for added depth. The wine was then allowed to marry, again at controlled temperatures in stainless steel, before bottling.
Complex flavors in excellent harmony
The Gabbiano Pinot Grigio is a sunny straw yellow. Floral notes caress the nose, with hints of pear and honeydew melon. Citrus aromas are clearly evident on the palate, delivering complex flavors of green apple, orange, and a hint of lemon. The mouthfeel is lively and full-bodied, created by the excellent harmony of fruit and acidity. The wine is light-bodied, with a lingering finish that reveals hints of citrus and almond. It pairs beautifully with all light meals, salads, and white meats, especially spaghetti Genovese. Or enjoy it as an aperitif.
