Gran Marius Reserva Selección – Powerful class wine from Almansa

The Gran Marius Reserva Selección is Bodegas Piqueras' flagship wine and showcases Almansa's full potential. This powerful, sultry wine is made from a selection of the finest grapes from old, high-altitude vineyards. The combination of Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, and Tempranillo produces a deep, concentrated wine that offers both elegance and length.

Vineyards and region: high-altitude plots between 750 and 900 meters

The grapes come from bush vines that are 45 to 65 years old. They grow on dry, chalky soils with minimal rainfall. Thanks to the altitude of 750 to 900 meters and the extreme day-night difference, the grapes retain their acidity, despite the region's heat. The grapes are harvested by hand from early September (Tempranillo) to late October (Monastrell).

Vinification and maturation: careful selection and patient development

Each grape variety is fermented separately and macerated for 3 to 4 weeks at 27–28°C . After fermentation, the individual young wines are aged for 8 to 10 months in stainless steel , after which the final blend is made. The wine is then aged for 12 months in medium-toasted, fine-grained American oak (300L) . After bottling, the wine rests in the bottle for at least another 9 to 12 months for added complexity and smoothness.

Tasting notes: intense, spicy and refined

The color is ruby red with a cherry- to brick-red rim. The aroma reveals notes of raspberries, stewed plums, spices, black olives, and vanilla . The palate is rich, deep, and delicate, with silky tannins, a hint of cocoa, and a soft, lingering finish.
