There are wines that steal your heart, and that's certainly the case with this Pouilly Fume from winemaker Hubert Brochard. So beautiful and made with integrity. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. And that's what gives this Pouilly Fume a vibrant white-gold hue in the glass.
The family business Hubert Brochard
The estate comprises 113 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and 39 hectares of Pinot Noir, spread across the communes of Chavignol, Sancerre, Sainte-Gemme, Ménétréol, Saint-Satur, Thauvenay, and Bannay, with additional vineyards in Pouilly-Fumé. These diverse holdings offer the Brochards a range of soils for wines of depth and complexity. The family holds plots in Les Monts Damnés and the Côte de Beaujeu, two of Chavignol's most famous vineyards, where terres blanches of Kimmeridgian marl produce powerful wines. Silex, or flint, is concentrated around Sancerre, Saint-Satur, Ménétréol, and Thauvenay, producing wines with a strong mineral character. Finally, vines planted on chalky caillottes soils impart attractive aromas to the wines.
The Pouilly-Fumé wine from the white wine region of the same name is made entirely of Sauvignon Blanc grapes from thirty-year-old vines. The name is a combination of Pouilly, which comes from the town of Pouilly-sur-Loire, and Fumé, which translates to "smoked." This name derives from the geology of the growing area. As in Sancerre, flints are also found here, which can produce smoke and sparks when struck together. The soil consists of a mixture of calcareous clay, marl, flint, and limestone. This combination of soils gives this exceptional wine a unique mineral note and a unique flavor.
The splendor of Hubert Brochard Pouilly Fume
Beautiful aromas of white fruit, gooseberries, eucalyptus, and a touch of smoky. This splendor continues on the palate, which is thick and robust. Very mildly dry, it boasts refined nuances of a true Pouilly Fume, such as flint, nuts like hazelnut, and peaches. A truly delicious glass of wine with lovely fresh notes and a hint of honey on the finish.
