Our Review

This is always a good introduction when you want to drink Napa Valley Cab for the first time. Very present, very round, smooth, quite fruity. That's also partly because, despite being a "Cabernet Sauvignon", it also has a bit of Malbec. Below a certain percentage, those grapes don't have to be mentioned, which explains why 'US Cabs' can be so different. Always delicious, though I've personally had it too often by now, haha.

This Cabernet Sauvignon blend from The Hess Collection comes from the Allomi vineyard, nestled in the rolling hills of Napa Valley, California. The blend is 80 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with 10 percent Petite Syrah, 7 percent Malbec, and 3 percent Petit Verdot. You can't tell from the label, but more about that in this blog post, where we discuss blends and specifically about them.

The wines of Hess Collection Winery

Donald Hess founded the Hess Collection Winery in 1986. The vineyards are undoubtedly among the finest in Napa Valley. And the grapes grown and vinified there belong to the California wine elite, prized by connoisseurs worldwide. Although Napa Valley itself is relatively small, it boasts diverse microclimates and soils ideally suited to grape growing. Here, the combination of a typically long, warm growing season and well-drained soils creates optimal ripening conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. It is considered one of the world's finest wine regions. The wines of the Hess Collection are family-owned, sustainably farmed, and dedicated to reflecting a true sense of place. The wines are recognizable by their elegant, rich, and complex flavors and a tradition of excellence. The grapes are rooted in soils with a volcanic surface interspersed with clay and clay. All three grape varieties are crushed and after temperature-controlled maceration the wine matures for eighteen months in American oak barrels, 25 percent of which are new.

Enjoy the explosive taste of this Cabernet Sauvignon

Complex and accessible, the nose boasts rich aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry, alongside notes of vanilla and nutmeg. The palate opens explosively with diverse dark, jammy fruit and concludes with a lingering finish featuring beautiful acidity, distinctive fruit aromas, and firm, concentrated, yet supple tannins. The elegant, glamorous Hess Collection Allomi Cabernet Sauvignon is festive. Serve it with festive meat dishes and hearty meals. But it also shines with macaroni and veal ragout.
