The long history of South African viticulture dates back to 1659. Many courageously set out for the wine capital of Cape Town to work in viticulture. Today, it's an important piece of history, as viticulture has boomed. To honor those who had the courage to travel to Cape Town, this winery has adopted the name "Kaapmoed" (Cape Moed). They produce some of the finest wines in the Cape, and this red wine is made from the renowned Merlot, Pinotage, and Shiraz grapes.
The harvest for the red Cape courage
The three grape varieties used to make this red wine are grown in different vineyards. This gives the winemaker more choices and gives the wine greater depth and suppleness. The winemaker at Kaapmoed cultivates the grapes with great care, and this is reflected in the vineyards. The bunches hang perfectly, thanks in part to the vineyard's perfect climate. Plenty of sunshine and a cool breeze provide the bunches with everything they need. It's no wonder, then, that this red wine from Kaapmoed is so popular in many top restaurants. All three grape varieties are harvested separately. Once the vinification of all three grape varieties is complete, the winemaker will create the final blend.
A deliciously juicy glass of red wine
When we carefully pour this wine into the glass, we see a beautiful, rich ruby red color. A few vigorous swirls release wonderful aromas. The aroma is very appealing, with abundant red and black fruit notes, along with soft nuances of pepper, spice, and toffee. The taste of this Kaapmoed Dry Red is exceptionally smooth, with ripe notes of blackberries, berries, and cherries, as well as hints of bay leaf, pepper, and vanilla. A very complete glass of wine!
