A red wine with a Dutch touch—that's Klein Friesland Broer & Suster Shiraz. Dutch craftsmanship combined with South African conditions: the result is promising. A spicy wine, the kind you want to sit down and enjoy. All you have to do is savor it. A warm bouquet of blackberries, cherries, and dark berries envelops you. Spices and chocolate on the palate, with a hint of red fruit. The wine is sultry, it warms you up. You savor it.

The South African wines of Klein Friesland

Let's go back four hundred years in time, to the early 1600s. The Steenkamp family, led by Father Familias Jan Harm, left Friesland for South Africa. They settled on the Groenland estate, situated right between Cape Town and the now-famous wine village of Stellenbosch. For years, the estate was passed down through generations. Four generations ago, they began experimenting with winemaking. From the 1990s onward, things moved quickly. A nearby vineyard, called Friesland, was purchased. The wines of Klein Friesland were born.

The vineyards now encompass approximately 36 hectares. This isn't a huge amount, so be quick, as the quality is exceptionally high. This Klein Friesland Broer & Suster Shiraz is made from Shiraz, a grape variety the Steenkamp family knows intimately. Firm, spicy, and full of character, it grows with pleasure on the slopes of the Simonsberg, which towers majestically over the landscape. To top it all off, the Klein Friesland winemaker adds 5% Grenache Noir from Polkadraai Hills. Finally, and as the icing on the cake, it's finally matured in oak. Klein Friesland Broer & Suster Shiraz is aged for a full 12 months in used oak barrels.
