In the renowned and beautiful Margaux wine region, we find the prestigious Château Giscours winery. This winery has a long history, having been founded in 1552 by Pierre de Lhomme, a well-known figure in France for owning the finest cloth factory in the country. Nevertheless, he wanted to realize his dream and began planting the Château Giscours vineyards. This later became a resounding success and is today one of the finest wineries in the Margaux region. The winery is currently owned by a Dutchman, Eric Albada Jelgersma, who purchased it in 1995 and invested heavily. His goal was to restore the buildings, vineyards, and winery to their former glory, and he has been very successful. The quality of the wine skyrocketed and now bears the prestigious classification of 3rd Grand Cru Classé.

Wood aging for the La Sirene de Giscours Margaux

This red wine, called La Sirene de Giscours Margaux, is the second wine from this beautiful French winery. It is made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, supplemented with Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. These bunches grow on very old vines located in the Margaux region, where the vines are rooted in the deep gravel and sand subsoil of the glacial basins. This is unique to the region and gives La Sirene de Giscours its iconic style. The grapes are grown in different plots, which significantly increases the quality. After the harvest has enjoyed the perfect climate with abundant sunshine and cool breezes from the Gironde River, the bunches are partially harvested by hand. Depending on the plot, the bunches are transported in small crates to Château Giscours. After pressing, the exquisite juice is aged in oak in the cellars of Château Giscours. This period lasts at least 12 months, and French oak barrels are used, 20 percent of which are new and unused. This gives this red wine more flavor and strength.

The best wine from Margaux?

Is it the best wine from Margaux? Well, that's always a matter of personal taste, but we can assure you it's a masterpiece. What richness and finesse this La Sirene de Giscours Margaux possesses. Sit back, relax, because this is a storybook. It begins the moment you open the bottle, as we smell the powerful attack of this red wine. We noted numerous nuances of black fruit, vanilla, cedar, and spices. In the glass, it blew deep red with a purple rim reminiscent of a dark cherry. The aroma first offered deep notes of blackcurrant and a subtle oaky note. Then came some plums, blackcurrant fruit, and a wide variety of spices. On the palate, a deep attack with abundant richness of blackberry and blueberry. Swirl the wine around, and it also revealed notes of tobacco, oak, licorice, and some light spice. The long finish with refined tannins completes the picture.
