This unique dessert wine, the Lafage Ambré Hors d'Age, is undoubtedly our favorite Lafage dessert wine. Lafage's range includes three different dessert wines, offering a perfect pairing for every dessert. Domaine Lafage is located in the south of France, between the southern coast and the Pyrenees, near Perpignan. This beautiful winery, steeped in history, boasts 140 hectares of exquisite vineyards. Today, the sixth generation is at the helm. Jean-Marc Lafage and his wife Eliane have brought significant innovation to the business while preserving family traditions. They also work just as hard on the estate as anyone else. Jean-Marc is even the winemaker!
40 year old vines for this gem
What a special glass this amber-colored dessert wine from Domaine Lafage is! Winemaker Jean-Marc Lafage makes this dessert wine from 100% Grenache grapes grown on vines over 40 years old. The vineyard is located in the heart of the Rivesaltes wine region in the south of France, just north of Perpignan. The area primarily produces VDN (Vin Doux Naturel) wines, which are fortified sweet dessert wines. Grenache grapes have a long growing season, allowing them to fully absorb the sugars. Once Jean-Marc is satisfied with the grapes' ripeness, the manual harvest of the Grenache grapes begins. The picked bunches are carefully placed one by one in small crates. These precious grapes must sustain as little damage as possible before being pressed. After vinification and a long period of bottle aging, the Domaine Lafage Ambré Hors d'Age is ready to be enjoyed.
The taste of this Lafage Ambré Hors d'Age
The stunning end result is certainly something to be proud of! Let's start with the beautiful amber color, a true gem. The aroma immediately reveals a unique character. Beautiful aromas of flowers, dried apricots, and a hint of freshly roasted coffee at the end. The taste is overwhelming. The nuances of the dried apricots are pleasantly present. There's also a subtle hint of freshly baked bread. The finish is sweet yet mild. What dessert would you serve with this? Consider tiramisu, hard cheeses, or friandises to go with coffee.
