Looking for a beautiful, full-bodied French Chardonnay at an attractive price? Then you've come to the right place with this Lafage Cadireta Cotes Catalanes! Another gem from this wonderful winery. In the beautiful south of France, in the Roussillon region to be precise, lies the centuries-old Domaine Lafage winery. Nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees, Lafage boasts 140 hectares of vineyards. Currently, the sixth generation of Lafage is at the helm of this world-famous winery. After gaining experience crafting the finest wines worldwide, Jean-Marc Lafage and his wife Eliane successfully took over the family business. And we can certainly call the estate successful, as the international wine press is undoubtedly smitten with these beautiful wines! One of these top wines is this Lafage Cadireta.
Wood-aged French Chardonnay
The Domaine Lafage Cadireta owes its name to a small chair. A cadireta is a small chair. This chair used to be brought out in good weather and served as a temporary seat to watch passersby. It is now the name of the vineyard planted with Chardonnay vines, and they are the only ones left to watch passersby. This Domaine Lafage Cadireta is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes and therefore has a beautiful, full character. The vineyards are located near the Mediterranean Sea, which gives the grapes a lovely refreshing effect. The Mediterranean climate also contributes to this. The warm days and cooler nights are a perfect combination for ripening. When the Chardonnay grapes are perfectly ripe at the end of the growing season, the harvest begins. Bunch by bunch, they are hand-selected and harvested. The bunches are then transported to the press in small crates. During vinification, 30% of the juice is aged in oak barrels. The remainder is aged in stainless steel tanks. After this, the entire wine is aged for another month in 600-liter oak barrels for a perfect finish.
What does this Lafage Cadireta taste like?
Well, we can definitely call this Lafage Chardonnay perfect. What a gem! Starting with the color, we see a straw yellow with golden reflections in the glass, typical of an oak-aged Chardonnay. The aroma reveals impressions of ripe tropical fruit, flowers, and a touch of oak aging. The palate of this Lafage Cadireta Cotes Catalanes is round and ripe with plenty of soft flavors of tropical fruit, vanilla, oak, peach, apricot, and a hint of citrus peel and honey. A superb Chardonnay with a capital E!
