We're no secret that we're huge fans of Lafage wines. We also love dessert wines! It just so happens that this fantastic winery has several dessert wines in its selection. Domaine Lafage is located in the south of France, between the southern coast and the Pyrenees, near Perpignan. Here, this beautiful winery, steeped in history, boasts 140 hectares of exquisite vineyards. Today, the sixth generation is at the helm. Jean-Marc Lafage and his wife Eliane have brought significant innovation to the business while preserving family traditions. They also work just as hard on the estate as anyone else. Jean-Marc is even the winemaker!

Dessert wine from Rivesaltes

The vineyards for the Lafage Grain de Vignes Muscat de Rivesaltes are located in Rivesaltes, a unique region within the Roussillon region where exclusively white dessert wines are produced. These vineyards are located just north of Perpignan. This dessert wine is made up of 90% Muscat Petit Grain and 10% Muscat d'Alexandrie. The old vines, with an average age of 30 years, are planted in slate soil, which has a positive effect on the grapes. The growing season for these Muscat grapes is long. The grapes hang on the vines longer than grapes for regular wine, allowing them to absorb the sugars. This results in an increasingly sweet flavor. Once Jean-Marc is satisfied with the grapes' ripening, the manual harvest begins. The grapes are transported to the press in small crates to minimize damage to the bunches.

The taste of this Lafage white dessert wine

Are you planning a dessert with, say, tropical fruit or a cheese board featuring blue cheeses? Then think back to this Lafage Grain de Vignes Muscat de Rivesaltes. This dessert wine harmoniously complements these suggestions. The color is a beautiful light golden yellow with a bright sparkle in the glass. The recognizable aromas of Muscat burst forth from the glass: grapes, roses, dried apricots, and plums predominate. The flavor is full and ripe with abundant notes of dried fruit and caramel. We also noted a low and smooth finish with a fresh acidity at the end. This dessert wine is certainly not too heavy and is definitely suitable for anyone who doesn't like very sweet dessert wines.
