This Sauvignon Blanc from the Laurent Miquel Père et Fils winery is highly recommended! A beautifully pure wine with all the wonderful qualities of a good Sauvignon Blanc.
The beginning of the Laurent Miquel winery
Since 1791, the Miquel family has cared for the Cazal Viel estate, formerly managed by the monks of Fontcaude Abbey. The land surrounding the estate was very fertile and was used for hunting and winemaking. However, at that time, the wine yielded little, and the family earned little wealth. Almost 200 years later, in 1970, Syrah was cultivated extensively in these vineyards, and thus winemaking began. In 1980, Henri Miquel released his first vintage. Today, Laurent Miquel is the owner of this renowned estate and is considered one of the best young winemakers in the South of France.
The vineyard is located in the commune of Cessenon in the southern part of the Saint-Chinian region, at an altitude of between one hundred and two hundred meters. The soil is clay-limestone, and the vineyard covers eight hectares. The name "Vendanges Nocturnes" means "night harvest." The wine is made using modern methods, with temperature controls to preserve the fruit as much as possible.
The origins and flavors of Laurent Miquel Sauvignon Blanc
The meticulous handling of the grapes produces this pure white wine. Controlled fermentation and protection against oxidation by harvesting at night are part of this process. The wine is lightly filtered before bottling, preserving its original flavors. This crisp white wine comes from the Pays d'Oc Protected Region. Warmth is generally abundant here, but the weather is subject to extremes. The perfect microclimate protects Laurent Miquel's grapes. The aroma reveals fresh fruit notes of apple, citrus, pear, and gooseberry. The taste is surprisingly smooth yet delightfully fresh! Beautiful, soft fruit notes of apple and cultivated pear, not to mention the green hues!
