Le Bonheur Stellenbosch Blanc Fume

The Le Bonheur Wine Estate boasts a rich wine history in the Stellenbosch wine region. It has been a meeting place for travelers and traders for years. We find this understandable, given its picturesque landscape, abundant green spaces, natural springs, and magnificent mountains. Historically and even today, it's a popular stop for conversation during the journey between Cape Town, Paarl, and Stellenbosch. Inspired by this, the original owner, Jacob Isak De Villier, founded the winery decades ago. With respect for nature, the winery boasts one of the highest vineyards in Stellenbosch, and this is reflected in the fine wines.

Wood aging for the Blanc Fume

As you probably know, Le Bonheur boasts one of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in Stellenbosch. This top-quality wine is made from this vineyard, but it's not an easy process. The winemakers work hard to ensure the Sauvignon Blanc grapes for this Blanc Fume truly shine. The vineyard's elevated position naturally cools the grapes. Combined with the fresh breeze from the mountaintops, this results in exactly what the winemaker desires: a fresh harvest with plenty of power thanks to the extended ripening on the vines. Once ripe, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand, followed by oak aging for twelve months in Le Bonheur's cellars.

The result is a beautiful wine with great depth. It begins with the intense aroma of gooseberries, green apples, citrus fruit, and of course, some roasted nuts and vanilla. The taste is like a little angel hovering over your tongue... Ripe flavors of yellow fruit, mixed with green herbs, grapefruit, green apple, and a touch of lime. The finish is like a Sancerre or Pouilly-Fuisse; full and powerful with plenty of refreshment.
