Vintage Report

2023 was a good year for Burgundy, characterized by a warm and dry growing season. This resulted in healthy grapes with good ripeness, yielding wines that are fruity and approachable.

Louis Latour Rully Rouge 2023 Rully, France

Louis Latour Rully Rouge 2023 is a red Burgundy from Rully, the first village you encounter when traveling south from the Côte d'Or into the Côte Chalonnaise. This wine combines the refined signature of Pinot Noir with a strikingly pure aging in stainless steel. This emphasizes fresh red fruit, elegant tannins, and the approachable side of a classic Village wine from Burgundy.

Vineyards and Region

Rully is located in the Côte Chalonnaise, south of the Côte d'Or.

Location / Origin: Rully is a Village appellation in the Côte Chalonnaise and geographically forms the transition from the Côte d'Or to the more southerly part of Burgundy.

Appellation: The Rully appellation produces both red and white wines at Village and Premier Cru levels, giving the village a broad reputation within the Côte Chalonnaise.

Soil: The Pinot Noir grows on clay and limestone, a classic Burgundian soil combination that contributes to drainage, tension, and refinement.

Vineyard & Harvest: The vines are on average 30 years old and yield approximately 45 hl/ha. This gives the grapes sufficient concentration without losing Rully's elegant character.

Vinification and Aging

The cellar approach is classic and understated, with little distraction from wood.

Fermentation: Fermentation traditionally takes place in open vats, a method well-suited to Pinot Noir because color, aroma, and tannins are gradually extracted from the skins.

Aging: The wine ages for 10–12 months in stainless steel tanks. This keeps the fruit expression clear and allows the structure time to quietly come together without adding extra oak aromas.

Grape Composition

This red Rully is made entirely from Pinot Noir, the classic red grape of Burgundy.

Pinot Noir – Rully: Pinot Noir gives this wine its ruby red color, juicy cherry fruit, fine tannins, and elegant structure. In Rully, the grape often appears somewhat more direct and fruit-driven than in the most famous villages of the Côte d'Or.

Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions

Deep ruby red in the glass, with aromas of blackcurrant, licorice, pepper, and ripe cherry. The taste is fresh, juicy, and elegant, with fine tannins and a long, clean finish. The stainless steel aging keeps the fruit beautifully clear and gives the wine a lively Burgundian tension.

Serving Temperature: Serve this Rully Rouge at 14–15 °C, so that the freshness of the Pinot Noir is preserved and the fine tannins feel smooth.

Dishes: Delicious with grilled meat, charcuterie, poultry, veal, and aged cheeses.
