What a delicious, very fresh Pecorino, this Lunaria Civitas Pecorino. A wine with a rich, yellow-fruit character and a slightly exotic undertone. It pairs perfectly with fish dishes and young, (semi-)hard cheeses. Cantina Orsogna is a cooperative with over 600 partners in Abruzzo. The talented winemaker is Camillo Zulli. All the wines produced are from the area located 15 km from the Adriatic coast, near the second-highest mountain in the Apennines, the Majella.

Sustainable Italian wines

Cantina Orsogna, located in the town of the same name in the province of Chieti, is a cooperative founded in 1964 and today has 600 contributing members cultivating over 1,400 hectares of vineyards halfway between the sea and the Maiella Mountains. A reality with significant numbers and a rather ancient history, embodying the spirit of Abruzzo wine with a solid and robust tradition. The Lunaria winery produces biodynamic wines, which, to put it mildly, form a portfolio of labels, divided into white, red, sweet, and sparkling wines. Lunaria, of course, derives from "moon," an important celestial body within the biodynamic movement. The wine is made from 100 percent Trebbiano grapes.

The vinification of Lunaria Civitas Pecorino

The wine is made from 85 percent Pecorino, supplemented with Malvasia and Trebbiano. The grapes are harvested by hand and rigorously selected. Only the finest juice is bottled. The whole bunches are sent to the pneumatic press, and the must is fermented with its indigenous yeasts at a low temperature (12-14 degrees Celsius) in stainless steel tanks for approximately 30 days. This is followed by aging in steel tanks, followed by several months of bottle aging. Because perfection requires patience. The result is a straw-yellow wine with intense aromas. Hints of yellow fruit, white flesh, and green apples. The palate is full, fresh, and fruity with a pleasant finish. This wine is wonderful with fish dishes or simply enjoyed on its own.
