Lunaris Malbec is the most famous wine from the Lunaris series by Bodegas Callia in Argentina. Bodegas Callia has been a well-known and established name in our selection for years. With the expansion of the Lunaris series, they have only further strengthened their reputation, and not entirely without success – what a fantastic series! This beautiful winery even has a Dutch touch! After Dutch businessman Meindert Pon made Bodegas Salentein a resounding success, he focused on establishing a new winery, Bodegas Callia! This winery has also become one of the most renowned in Argentina.

Argentinian wine with a Dutch touch

This red wine from Lunaris is made from 100% Malbec grapes. The vineyards for this Lunaris Malbec are located in the San Juan region, where a perfect balance is found between warm daytime temperatures and the refreshing nighttime breeze. Due to the many hours of pruning in the vineyards, the yield from the vines is lower than average, but the quality is far superior. As you can imagine, quality is paramount at Bodegas Callia. At the perfect ripeness, the Malbec grapes are hand-picked. The grapes are then transported directly to the winery in small baskets weighing no more than 10 kilos, minimizing damage from bruising during transport. Here, the grapes are immediately pressed gently and softly, ensuring only the finest, first-rate juice reaches the tanks. After vinification, the wine is aged in bottle in the Lunaris cellar for four months, after which it is released.

Why buy Lunaris Malbec?

The result is a beautiful, true Argentinian Malbec! The color quickly becomes apparent in the glass upon pouring. Deep, dark red with an almost black core. This already suggests we're dealing with a substantial wine. The aroma offers a beautiful range of ripe red and black fruit aromas, a touch of spice, a light hint of vanilla, and that familiar "dusty" Malbec note. The taste is full and powerful, yet also smooth because this wine hasn't been aged in oak. The ripe red and black fruit is pleasantly present, accompanied by a spicy undertone. The tannins certainly remind us that we're dealing with a Malbec wine—a good one, to be precise! Definitely a reason to give this Lunaris Malbec a try.
