One of our favorite red wines from the Lunaris series is definitely this blend of Malbec and Shiraz. A truly perfectly balanced red wine. Lunaris is a new series from the Callia winery. With the expansion of the Lunaris series, they have only further expanded their reputation, and not entirely without success. What a fantastic series! This beautiful winery even has a Dutch touch! After Dutch businessman Meindert Pon made Bodegas Salentein a true success, he focused on establishing a new winery, Bodegas Callia! This winery has also become one of the most renowned in Argentina. The grapes for Lunaris wines are all harvested, as far as possible, at the moon's altitude.
Syrah Malbec Lunaris by Callila
The vineyards for this delicious Argentinian big boy are located in the San Juan region, specifically in the Tulúm Valley. At an altitude of over 650 meters, the beautiful vines for this blend of Malbec and Shiraz shine. The soil here has a fine sandy texture with a good dose of pebbles. The daytime temperature in the vineyards is wonderfully warm during the growing season. The nights are wonderfully refreshing thanks to the cool breeze from the Andes mountains. Because there is little rainfall, Callia has installed a drip irrigation system in the vineyards, using meltwater from the Andes. All these factors ensure a calm and balanced growing season for the grapes. When the grapes of this Lunaris reach perfect ripeness, they are harvested mechanically. Once arrived at the winery, a strict selection takes place on long tables to determine which bunches are suitable for pressing. After the separate vinification of the grape varieties, the final blend is made and the wine will mature in the bottle for 3 months in the Lunaris cellars.
Why buy Lunaris Malbec Shiraz Callia?
The result of all the effort in the vineyards and the winery? A wonderfully full-bodied and powerful red wine that would certainly pair perfectly with an Argentinian steak or empanada. The color is a ruby red with a purée-like edge. On the nose, we discovered hints of red and black fruit with notes of light spice and vanilla. The taste is truly typical Malbec, full and powerful with just the right amount of juiciness. Beautiful undertones of pomegranate and vanilla from the Syrah grape. This Lunaris is an absolute must-try!
