Malluso Susumaniello 2021
Malluso Susumaniello is a powerful and expressive red wine from southern Salento, one of the sunniest regions of Puglia. Made from the rare, indigenous Susumaniello grape, this Italian red perfectly demonstrates why this variety is making an impressive comeback. Expect a combination of ripe black fruit, subtle spice, and a striking freshness that makes it smooth and balanced. This wine is available exclusively upon request.
Vineyards and region
The grapes come from Salento IGT, an appellation in the far south of Puglia, between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. Here, chalky soils and Mediterranean influences produce full-bodied wines with elegant structure. Thanks to the cooling sea breeze, the grapes ripen slowly and retain their vibrant acidity, even with high sugar levels. Salento has become one of Italy's most promising regions for indigenous grape varieties like Susumaniello.
Vinification and style
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness to bring out the full fruit character. Vinification focuses on expression and balance. This red wine has a medium body, soft tannins, and a noticeably fresh undertone that contrasts with its warm, southern character. The alcohol content is 15%, yet the wine remains smooth and drinkable.
Grape composition
100% Susumaniello – a rare grape from the province of Brindisi, prized for its deep colour, compact bunches and natural acidity.
