The Gran Marius Verdejo Sauvignon is an organic white wine from Almansa , produced by the family-owned Bodegas Piqueras . This blend of Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc comes from high-altitude vineyards in southeastern Spain. Its combination of crisp acidity, tropical fruit, and subtle creaminess makes this a modern white wine that is both refined and easy to drink.
Vineyards and region: organic and high-altitude in Almansa
The grapes come from the oldest organically managed plots of Bodegas Piqueras , located at an altitude of 700 to 750 meters. The poor, chalky soils and the extreme climate with wide temperature variations produce grapes with high aromatic intensity and natural acidity. The vines are 25 to 30 years old and are managed entirely organically.
Vinification and maturation: cold fermentation and fine lees
After hand-harvesting in September, the grapes undergo a 48-hour cold maceration. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and is interrupted with cold water to preserve a slight residual sweetness. The wine then matures for 3 to 4 months on the fine lees, with weekly bâtonnage. This imparts structure, complexity, and a soft, creamy mouthfeel.
